Rev. Doupe will talk about his trip to Palestine—Israel in early May of this year, and the fear that fuels conflict. Emphasis will be on the attitudes which undermine and overcome fear, embodied in several persons whom he will describe. Gary Doupe was born in Bainbridge, NY in 1943. He graduated from Vestal H.S. (1960), Harpur College B.A. Humanities-Music (1964), Wesley Theological Seminary -Washington, D.C. M. Div. (1969), and San Francisco Theological Seminary D. Min. (1982). He was ordained a Deacon (1965) and elder (1969) in the United Methodist Church, and served as a pastor and campus pastor in several locations including Oneonta and Binghamton, NY. Gary has had a lifelong interest in music and social justice. His doctoral dissertation was focused on church opposition to apartheid in South Africa. During the last two decades Gary has been part of a task force on peace with justice in Palestine-Israel; he traveled throughout Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza in 2012. |
