Systemic Housing Team
Formed following the UUCB Housing Forum held 1/25/25, the HUUB created two teams to work on housing issues. The Systemic Housing team’s focus is on supporting the development of safe, affordable housing options through support of existing efforts, advocacy, and education.
Southern Door Community Land Trust (SDCLT), formed in 2019, aims to fill gaps in the housing continuum in Broome County, specifically working to empower and house people of color in permanently affordable housing.
UUCB’s Systemic Housing Team is working to meet their identified funding gaps through religious community engagement as well as grant writing.
Current Efforts:
– Raised $3,732.11 for Southern Door via Special Collection in March 2025;
– Hosted Hajra Aziz, Executive Director of Southern Door Community Land Trust for Social Justice Sunday, March 23, 2025;
– Invited local religious institutions to join this effort;
– Developing Grant Tracker spreadsheet for local and statewide opportunities;
– Assisting to write grant to NYSDEC; and
– Assisting to apply for loan to NYSCU.
