We are getting the kindling ready to Burn the Mortgage. We want to do away with a debt of $225,000 by October 2025, before the interest rate goes from 4% to 11%.
Within the past month, two generous households have started the fire with donations of $5,000 and $2,000, taking $7,000 off of our principal. The fire is ignited!
Burning the Mortgage will take away the burden on our budget of the $29,000 annual mortgage payment, and spare us an additional balloon payment of approximately $125,000 in 2035.
How can I help?
- Reflect on how and why you support UUCB, and find creative ways to be as generous as your situation will allow. Make your pledge in 2024, and your donation in 2024 and/or 2025.
- Offer to help throw our Congregation-wide kick off.
- Offer to be a steward, and attend training on how to steward your fellow congregants.
- As you think about gift giving for the holidays, consider doing something different this year–give to UUCB to honor your loved ones and friends. In the process, take the time to let them know why they are people you choose to honor. We will have affordable certificates you can purchase to dedicate favorite places (at UUCB or wherever you choose) to your loved ones and friends, and to let them know why you love them. Your kind words will warm their hearts, while your donation will burn the mortgage. We guarantee they will cherish, remember, and save the gift of your kind words.
- When folks ask what you’d like for the holidays this year, let them know you’d appreciate the same.
- The Burn the Mortgage taskforce members are Kathleen McKenna, Emily Hotchkiss-Plowe, Gay Canough, and Eric Cotts. Please reach out to us with your questions and your offers to help.
