Greetings,

I will not be at our staff meeting today — we’re in Connecticut for a few days.

FWIW … I thought Darlyne’s service was very good.  She addressed the criticism of her last sermon running too long, although the other elements were longer than I think she expected.  Regarding the language that Darylne used … I thought she did a very good job of giving the historical & cultural context of the racial slurs she used, and indeed went into depth about how these are offensive and the need for everyone to be more empathetic. The examples she gave were always presented with the family and cultural context they were originally used by people who were or are unknowingly biased.  To me, the message was to be aware of our prejudices, the hurt they cause, and to make the effort to break that cycle.
