This Sunday evening, March 15, the Board of UUCB recently issued the following statement:
“As the CDC and governing authorities of NY have advised that, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, citizens should curtail in person meetings, UUCB will immediately cease physical meetings, including Sunday services, and instead pursue virtual meeting options, until further notice.”
This means all our Committee Meetings and groups such as CUUPs and SGM gatherings will not be happening in-person in our building. You will perhaps notice the board did not list an end time for this. Several congregations are closed through March, others through April. The truth is, we can’t predict how this will unfold. Throughout this time, however, we are committed to keeping in touch.
This is a difficult thing we are doing. Building community is central to our mission as a congregation. Eye contact and human touch are important when we are anxious or stressed – and that is exactly what we are curtailing. It is hard. But we can do this. We will find creative ways to support each other.
Our Sunday 10:30 pm worship services will be live-streamed on Zoom at

If you don’t have internet or computer access, you can still call in on your phone. We are looking into how we can make “social hour” happen at 11:30 so people can see each other and even have some conversations! The “Stream Team” is working on this. The team is currently Pamela Wik-Grimm, Jeff Donahue, Nicole Olivo, and Douglas Taylor.
I am excited to announce plans for regular online meetings with the minister! We’ll be using Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/5749237292 Meeting ID: 574 923 7292 Everyone is welcome.

Sunday 7:00 pm Bedtime Stories with the Minister
I’ll be reading A. A. Milne’s “Winnie the Pooh” chapters.
I will continue to be available for in-person, one-on-one meetings for pastoral care as needed. As the United Presbyterians have said:
“We will keep the building open during our regular hours for care and counseling, emergency food relief, and other essential services, including NA meetings. [We will serve the Tuesday Community Meal as take-out only.] The staff is developing protocols for extra safety and sanitizing, including more frequent wiping down of surfaces, keeping hand sanitizer stations out, posting signs asking people to wash their hands when they enter the building, etc.“
Remember to seek out creative ways to stay in touch, and please wash your hands.
Yours in faith,
Rev. Douglas Taylor
