Martin Shamoonpour and Dara Anissi will play original and traditional music on the traditional Middle Eastern instruments — the daf and the oud. The daf is a traditional Persian frame drum that produces a powerful and hypnotic drum sound. The oud is an 11-string grandmother of the guitar which had been used widely in the Middle East for more than 700 years. Martin and Dara will play original compositions that draw upon traditional influences from Iran,Turkey and Egypt, as well as Celtic music, classical music, and jazz. Admission is $10. Masking is required as a kindness to others. Coffee and goodies will be on sale at intermission.
Audience members are invited to perform during the middle set, strictly limited to five minutes.
