I
have been serving the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Binghamton
since the fall of 2003. My wife and I have three
children who are active in this congregation.
There is a link on this page to the sermons I have
preached here at UUCB. In addition to preaching three out of
four Sundays a month, I also teach Adult Religious Education classes,
participate in interfaith events throughout the community, support
Social Justice work with other members of the congregation, offer
pastoral care to members of the congregation, and officiate at weddings
and memorial services for both members and non-members.
I
am a fourth generation Unitarian Universalist, and the son of an
ordained UU minister. My mother, Rev. Elizabeth M. Strong,
was ordained as the Minister of Religious Education at the First
Unitarian Church of Rochester, NY when I was thirteen. As perhaps
one would assume, the church was an enormous part of my life during
my formative years.
It
was through the church that I discovered my first love: music. Singing
led me to perform in musicals at the church and my high school. It
led me to my first real job, at Camp Unirondack (a UU summer camp
in the Adirondacks), as the music and drama counselor back in the
summer of ‘88.
After
several years working with developmentally disabled adults, I entered
seminary. I graduated from Meadville Lombard Theological School
in Chicago, one of our two Unitarian Universalist seminaries. I
was ordained in 1999.
I
have found this congregation to be passionate about Justice and Equality
issues, caring of one another in our times of joy and sorrow, willing
to have fun and be silly together, appreciative of new perspectives
and thoughtful interchange, happy to have children in their midst,
spiritually grounded, ethically engaged, and welcoming of new people
and new families.
