The sermon title comes from a 2-volume collection of essays by the late UU Psychiatrist Heinz Kohut, who is known as the founder of what is called “Self Psychology.” Kohut posits a narcissistic line of development to go alongside other lines, such as Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual one. In other words, appreciating those qualities that make us individuals, in a healthy way. I will be drawing on Kohut’s work, as well as the work of my friend and colleague, Tom Owen-Towle.
The Rev. Dr. Stan Sears has been serving as the Consulting Minister to the Auburn UU Society for 10 years. He has served congregations in California, British Columbia, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New York. He will retire from parish ministry this summer.
