Social Justice Committee

• Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at church.
• We have joined 300 plus other U.U. Congregations in the U.S. by joining the UUSC's Coffee Project. We offer Equal Exchange coffee and tea each Sunday at our coffee hours. We also sell, at cost, Equal Exchange Coffees,Teas and Cocoa between our 2 Sunday services. These are fairly traded products giving small farmers in Central and South America a better future for themselves and their families. Also, we attempt to alert our congregation to Local, State, National, and International Issues in which they can take a part. Last year, we assisted in building and supplying funds for a Habitat house in Endicott.
• We recently acquired a lifetime membership to the NAACP.

Anti-Racism Task Force

• The Anti-Racism Task Force at UUCB is a liaison to the Black community and the congregation. Members volunteer at the NAACP and the Urban League. We publicize community events to the congregation. We are working to be more visible in the community, making individual connections and providing support to local groups when asked for and/or needed. We present a church service each year and in the past have presented community forums and UU workshops. Interfaith Coalition on Sexual Identity

• The Interfaith Coalition on Sexual Identity of Broome County grew out of the efforts of the UU Congregation of Binghamton and Centenary-Chenango Street United Methodist Church to offer religious homes for persons of all sexual identities.
• The MISSION of ICSI is four fold:
  1. To demonstrate that there are organized, mainstream religious communities that support Gay, Lesbian. Bisexual, Transgender lives;
  2. To increase a supportive presence for people of diverse sexual identity throughout the community;
  3. To educate other religious organizations and people, promoting understanding and opening hearts and minds;
  4. To welcome, affirm, support and advocate fair and equal treatment of all persons of all sexual identity.
     
     

Interfaith Impact of New York State

• Interfaith Impact of New York State (IINYS) is the progressive religious community's voice for justice and peace in New York State. A statewide Board of Directors, representatives from member groups, establishes policy and direction. The Executive Director oversees advocacy and organizational business from an Albany office. A Legislative Action Committee monitors the activities of the State Legislature, and advocates according to Board policies. Interfaith Impact is accountable to its partners and their supporting groups. Educational information about issue positions is available on the website: www.interfaithimpactnys.org. UUCB is a member of IINYS.

Opposition to the Death Penalty

• Last year our congregation hosted a state-wide conference on the death penalty. Go to this UUA site for more information on UU's against the death penalty.
